What is an Elevator Speech?
- An elevator speech (or elevator pitch) is a brief, persuasive speech that you can use to spark interest in what you or your organization does. It’s typically:
- 30 to 60 seconds long — about the length of an elevator ride.
- Clear and concise, explaining who you are, what you do, and what you’re looking for.
- Used in networking situations, job interviews, career fairs, or even chance meetings.
- The goal is to quickly engage your listener and leave them wanting to know more
During the Job Fair
- Smile, maintain good eye contact, and present a firm handshake when introducing yourself.
- Even though a job fair is a more relaxed atmosphere than a formal interview, it is still part of the interview process.
